Teacher's guide to making video

Please find the PowerPoint template which will form the basis of the Subject Selection Information videos that will be delivered to the College community through this are of PASSMARC.

Use PowerPoint to both prepare the visual elements and write your script notes - use the notes area of the PowerPoint program.

Recording video

A the current time, Play Posit is the best tool to use for recording. Please ask one of the eLearning Specialist (Warren, Tadgh) if you need help with this.

Note:  If you are working from your laptop (without a second screen) it will be easiest for you to print your notes/script so you can easily read them while recording.

Recording audio

Despite how you hear your own recorded voices, you will all sound excellent – but, you must use a decent microphone, the laptop microphones can work well, but always do a test recording for clarity and make sure you have zero (or near zero) background noise.

  • If possible use a headset mic – IT, eLearning or I can help you find one
  • If using your laptop’s built-in mic, sit close and to the middle of the laptop and test first (just record a few seconds of speaking in your normal voice)
  • Try to do your recording in one place, seated in the same way, preferably in one session – this will make your voice sound the same between slides/presentations.
  • Choose a quiet location – it doesn’t need to be completely silent but try not to record when the College bells are about to go!!

The eLearning Specialists (Warren, Tadgh) can assist you when you get to the recording stage.

Over to you. If your template doesn’t completely suit your needs, feel free to change it, add pictures, graphics etc. Let Wayne van den Bos or Alex Delaforce know when you are finished and we will upload/embed the finished file.
